Interior designer Jasmine Fisher has transformed a rented office unit into a charming studio that showcases her love of art, craftsmanship, and materials. The 32sq m studio is located in the historic red-brick Pall Mall Deposit building in Ladbroke Grove, west London.
The studio is a warm, layered space full of muted tones and curated artworks. Fisher, who previously worked as a barrister, negotiated the fit-out with the landlord to create an environment that supports wellbeing and creativity. She did this to counter the effects of conventional, sterile office environments she experienced as a lawyer.
Before founding the studio, she worked as a lawyer and saw the effects of such environments.
The studio’s focus is a large table used for client meetings and design reviews, with nearby shelves housing a materials library. Workstations run along the back wall to make the most of the natural light from the large window. This setup allows Fisher and her team to work efficiently while surrounded by the materials they need.
Fisher’s design palette features earthy colors, including browns and pinks, to communicate a link to the natural world and a sense of joy and positivity. Dashes of bold red add a sense of confidence to the scheme. These colors were chosen to create a welcoming atmosphere in the studio.
Fisher’s Polynesian, Chinese, and English roots feed into her work, with her seeking to understand her clients’ heritage and memories. Throughout the studio are objects sourced from artisans around the world, including Nemboro shamanic masks and handwoven wall hangings. These objects reflect her diverse background and add to the studio’s unique character.
Fisher believes that interior designers have a responsibility to support traditional craftsmanship in a world increasingly dominated by fast-fashion design. She says that art is the starting point for her projects, and the pieces chosen for the studio are textural and layered, so they feel integral to the space. This approach allows her to create spaces that are meaningful and beautiful.
