Behr Paint Co. has announced its 2027 Color of the Year: Grounded (T27-01), an earthy olive green that seamlessly blends the outdoors with indoor spaces. This natural shade is not just a color; it’s a mood, an emotion, an invitation to bring the tranquility of nature into our homes.
Introducing Grounded
The new color, described by Kayla Kratz, head of color at Behr Paint Co., as a “restorative essence” and “quiet energy,” is a harmonious marriage of olive and moss, subtly anchored by earthy brown undertones. This sophisticated blend creates a sense of calm and renewal, transforming every room into a sanctuary that feels inviting and effortlessly livable.
Grounded is more than a paint color; it’s a statement about the direction of design. It reflects a growing preference for spaces that are not merely aesthetically pleasing, but also functional, comforting, and connected to the natural world. As consumers seek greater comfort and stability, Grounded reflects a shift toward homes that restore and reconnect us with nature.
Connecting with Nature
In a Behr-commissioned survey, 77% of Americans shared that they turn to nature for solace when life becomes overwhelming. This statistic shows the universal appeal of nature-inspired design. Grounded, with its subtle blend of moss and olive tones, brings this natural vitality indoors, creating a space that feels intentional, inviting, and connected to the world outside.
Moreover, 86% of Americans agreed that DIY and design projects help them feel grounded by creating a safe, comforting haven for retreat and recharge. This sentiment highlights the therapeutic power of transforming our spaces. The right color, like Grounded, can significantly contribute to this sense of wellbeing. It’s no surprise, then, that 84% of Americans also agreed that the right paint color is key to making a space feel like home.

Grounded is not an isolated choice, but a keystone of Behr’s 2027 Color Trends Palette. This collection of complementary hues, inspired by the natural world, offers endless versatility for creating layered, harmonious spaces. The palette includes warm neutrals, earthy tones, muted pinks, clay hues, and airy blues, providing a rich mix for consumers to weave their own design story. It also reintroduces seven legacy colors, like Coastal Beige, Wheat Grass, and Environmental, designed to work beautifully with Grounded.
A Decade of Color Influence
The unveiling of Grounded marks a significant milestone for Behr Paint Co.: the 10th anniversary of its Color of the Year program. Over the past decade, this program has evolved from predicting color trends to driving conversations about how color transforms our lives.
Andy Lopez, chief marketing officer at Behr Paint Co., noted that the program has become a bellwether for the role of color in our lives. “Over the past 10 years, our Color of the Year has done more than identify a defining color,” he said. “It has helped people translate shifts in culture and design into inspiration they can confidently make their own. Ten years has given us a unique perspective on how the role of color continues to evolve in people’s lives. As we look ahead, we’re committed to delivering the colors, inspiration, and expertise that help DIYers and professionals create spaces that reflect how people live today – and into the future.”
To celebrate this anniversary, Behr Paint is making a significant contribution to Habitat for Humanity. The company is donating $250,000 to support affordable homeownership programs, providing construction materials and other resources to help families create homes that support comfort, stability, and a sense of belonging. Charlita Stephens Walker, vice president of strategic partnerships at Habitat for Humanity International, expressed gratitude for this partnership, stating that it helps more families achieve homeownership and creates a sense of community.
